Happy Father’s Day !
Taiwan celebrates Father’s Day each year on 8 August. This day is not a public holiday, but is widely observed by the people of Taiwan. This date differs from many other places around the world that celebrate Father’s Day on the third Sunday of June.
The choice of Father’s Day on the eighth day of the eighth month was motivated by the fact that the Chinese word for eight, ba, sounds like the word for father, baba, when you say “eight-eight”. It is the word for Dad or Daddy.
The actual customs for celebrating Father’s Day in Taiwan are similar to other places around the world. Preparing your father a meal, helping him in the garden or around the house, going fishing together, giving gifts, cards, and candies, or taking him out for lunch or dinner are all common gestures.
